Earlier today, 5th June 2020, Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council elected Cllr. Lisa Mitchell to be the Town Mayor. The meeting was held remotely and the chain would normally be handed over at the Annual meeting. Instead, following the meeting, the chain was handed over in the open area outside in the Memorial Gardens, social distance observed and all necessary precautions taken. The departing Mayor, Cllr Peter Freeman, handed over the chain at the end of a pole, staying 2 meters away.
Cllr Lisa Mitchell said “I am deeply honoured to be the Mayor of this fantastic community and I am grateful to my fellow Councillors for their trust and support. I will do all in my power to serve my community during the year.”
Cllr Freeman said “I have enjoyed every second of my term as Mayor and I am certain that Cllr Mitchell will be a very good Mayor, I have advised her to enjoy every day as it goes by very quickly”
Cllr Mike Theodoulou was elected Deputy Mayor and said “although the chains of office have been handed over at the end of a pole we have not been poles apart as a Council. Every member is now working well together, regardless of politics and is putting the community first”
