Llanelli Ramblers cheque presentation 2020

Following an application by the Llanelli Ramblers to our Community Grant fund, Cllr Michael Theodoulou welcomed Mr Alwyn Williams, Chairman of the Llanelli Ramblers and the Llanelli Festival of Walks and Elaine Jenkins, one of the Festival Leaders, to our offices to present them with their cheque. The money will be used to subsidise buses to move participants to and from the start and finishing locations throughout the 3 day festival.

Pembrey Library opening times and information

Pembrey library is located in the Old School Building on Ashburnham Road. it is open Tuesdays 9am - 12pm and 1pm - 5pm and Thursdays 9am - 11am and 1pm - 6pm throughout the year, excepting bank holidays. The library offers hundreds of books, including the latest best-sellers, a children's library, public computers, printing and photocopying facilities, a study/reading space, free wi-fi and public toilets and not forgetting a monthly book club. You can contact them during opening hours on 01554 830116 or pop in to chat with the librarian Dr Lucy Knight.

Cylch Meithrin Cheque Presentation

Cllr Robert John, Chair of the Regeneration and Wellbeing Committee presented the staff and children of Cylch Meithrin with a cheque for £1000 to support their purchasing new toys and equipment to allow them to cater to younger children. Based in the Memorial Institute in Burry Port, the Cylch offer childcare to children from the age of 18 months and also offer wrap around care for children in Parc y Tywyn. Merchant Navy Day 2019

Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council held a service delivered by The Reverend Nicholas Jones, Vicar of Burry Port with Pwll and Local Ministry Area Dean of Bro-Gwendraeth, for Merchant Navy Day at the Memorial Gardens on Friday 30th August 2019. The well attended event honoured the brave men and women who kept our 'island nation' afloat during both World Wars, and celebrated our dependence on modern day merchant seafarers who are responsible for 95% of the UK's imports, including half the food we eat, plenty of the fuel we burn and virtually all the products and goods we take for granted.

Tenovus donation

A cheque for £212.95 was presented by Mayor Peter Freeman on behalf of the Council to the local cancer charity Tenovus with the funds that were raised during the recent “Songs of Praise” event held on 7th July. This is an annual cross-congregational event, arranged by the Council that is held on the Sunday of the Burry Port Carnival weekend. A collection is held every year to support a different local charity and this year’s chosen charity was Tenovus. For more information about Tenovus please take a look at their website. As the leading cancer charity in Wales their work is aimed at helping those who have cancer and those close to them via research, treatment, emotional support and practical advice. Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council is proud to support this charity and their work in our community.

Pembrey and Burry Port Gardening Club cheque presentation

Cllr Robert John, Chair of the Regeneration and Wellbeing Committee presented Pembrey and Burry Port Gardening Club with a cheque for £350 which will be used to support their programme of specialist guest speakers at monthly meetings, marquee hire and other costs associated with their Annual Show. The Gardening Club meet in Pembrey Memorial Hall on the first Monday of every month at 7pm and are happy to welcome new members with an interest in gardening.

Burry Port Bowls Club cheque presentation

Earlier in the week, the Mayor, Peter Freeman, presented a cheque to the Bowls Club which was to part fund the purchase of a new specialist lawn mower to help keep their lawn in top condition. Club members wore their new club-shirts which include the Council logo for the occasion to show their appreciation for the support and investment the Council have shown to the club since taking on the facility during 2018. Remembrance Visit

The Town Council were made aware of the plight of Mr Harol Williams, 97 years of age, who is a patient at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. Harold, a long-serving member of Burry Port Male Voice Choir (54 years) was upset at being unable to attend the Remembrance Service in Burry Port, as he has usually done.

Mayor's Concert Report

The concert took place last Friday night with children from Ysgol Penbre, Ysgol Gynradd Gymunedol Porth Tywyn and Ysgol Glan y Mor as well as the Junior Band of the Burry Port Town Band, performing a selection of songs and hits for the gathered crowd.
